About PlantHouse

Located at 921 N St Asaph St, Alexandria, VA 22314, PlantHouse operates as a plant nursery serving Alexandria in Virginia. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

In Alexandria, garden centers are busiest on spring weekends, when new stock arrives and popular plants sell out; weekday mornings are calmer and staff have more time to answer questions. Ask which plants are hardy for your USDA zone in Virginia, whether trees and shrubs carry a replacement guarantee (one year is common), and whether the nursery delivers and plants large items. Fall is the best planting season for many trees and perennials, and end-of-season sales are common. Many nurseries close or shorten hours in winter, so check the listing for current hours and Google rating before you go.

The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–6 pm. Note that it does not open on Wednesday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (703) 216-3944. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is planthouse.us, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Customers rate it 4.6 out of 5 on Google across 174 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded plant nurseries in Alexandria.

Alexandria is in Virginia, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Alexandria follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Plant House in Alexandria is such a fun and unique place! I recently attended one of their terrarium workshops and had an amazing time. The workshop was well organized, hands-on, and a great experience whether you’re new to plants or already have a green thumb. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, welcoming, and made the whole experience fun and engaging. You can tell they’re passionate about plants and genuinely enjoy helping customers. The shop itself is beautiful and has an impressive selection of healthy plants, stylish pots, plant care supplies, and unique gifts. Whether you’re looking to add to your own plant collection, find the perfect gift, or sign up for one of their workshops, I highly recommend stopping by Plant House. I’ll definitely be back!

Fun place with great plant gifts and workshops and friendly, patient, knowledgeable staff. Street parking is easy to find on weekends. Just wish the bonsai workshop gave us ceramic planters, instead of plastic. The kokodema workshop was fun too. Very relaxing activity for most ages. They offer drinks and chips for sale. Beautiful, clean store. Open stores in DC and Rockville too please!

I came here with my friends for an activity during my bachelorette party weekend. We made terrariums and it was so cool! Alyssa helped us and showed all the amazing plants and decorative rocks, moss, flowers, etc. I highly recommend this to plant girlies for a chill activity that lasts about an hour or two.

My husband and I had visited this shop before and were excited to eventually get a plant here since the staff was very nice and very willing to help. In February husband decided to buy me a surprise plant and asked for guidance as he's not a plant person. The plant they directed him to buy was near death and wilting and somewhat hollow. He was told it would perk up since they had just watered it. We gave it a couple of weeks of TLC and the plant did not improve. We understand not all plants sold will last long, but I feel like my husband was taken advantage of for his lack of plant knowledge.

I had a really disappointing experience with PlantHouse after what started as an exciting plant purchase. I stopped in because my go-to shop, Rewild, was out of a “Silver Lady” (Scindapsus), and I was also looking for a smaller “mini tree” option that would fit in my car. PlantHouse had both in stock, which was a big draw. At first glance, the store looked clean and had a nice open, industrial feel. I did notice a few fungus gnats, which was my first red flag—but I brushed it off since most plant owners deal with them from time to time. The staff was also very friendly, and customer service initially felt positive. The second red flag was the price: the Dracaena marginata I purchased was about $170 cheaper than Dracaenas I had seen elsewhere, probably my second red flag. I convinced myself it was just due to size differences and considered it a win. Once I got home, I followed my usual routine—watering the plant, giving it a thurough rinse, and isolating it from my other plants (thankfully). By the next morning, I discovered at least 20 centipedes in the drainage tray and several more crawling out of the soil trying to escape the moisture. It was honestly shocking and completely un
